We will be having a card exchange and party next Tuesday morning. Please bring 12 unnamed cards or treats (enough for 12). They can be signed by your child but leave the "to" field blank.

We will be having a small party and would appreciate any food items you would like to contribute.

Unfortunately, we are completely full on Tuesday mornings so we can not invite those who are not regularly scheduled to also attend (I hope you understand). However, if those kids would like to bring something for their friends on Monday we will welcome them to do so.

Tactile Letter Book Project

Posted By: Miss Anna
For the month of February the Red Birds and I will be working on pre-reading work; introducing the  letter sounds l,c, and v. The intent is to introduce letters phonetically since this is the way they will learn how to read. Oftentimes teachers will introduce the Alphabet in order and without any sounds or movements to associate the visual with. Earlier this week I brought out a basket full of objects that begin with c. The kids had fun thinking of other words during snack and at other play times. I have attached a list of sounds below if you are interested in helping your child as you read to them in the evening and have them begin to sound out basic words.

We will increase our study of the letter sounds by identifying objects that begin with the associated sound and creating a tactile book with materials associated with their beginning sound. For example: 'yarn' for the letter 'y'; 'confetti' for the letter 'c'. Note here that we did not do 'circle' for c as that has a s sound instead of the soft k heard in cup or cake. The children will glue materials to an outline of the letter and when all 26 pages have been finished, they will take them home. We will not go in order of the alphabet and we will cover one letter per week. We have already covered 'y' and are continuing our study of 'c'.
I also wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you all for the warm welcome. We are having lots of fun at PBPH and I am looking forward to another fun filled month of new concepts and fun crafts!

Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog Day!

What a fun day for kids :) Today we not only talked about Punxsutawney Phil but also shadows, weather and the sun.

So grateful for technology! We watched the video of the announcement on the weather channel this morning at circle time. It brought this yearly event to life for the kids.

Below are a few other projects we did today

Tracing Shadows

Using a flashlight

They discovered that the closer the light the stronger the shadow!

The kids folded up the paper and glued their person on so he / she stood up

They also colored and cut out their own groundhog

Layla found other objects to use on the shadow wall

At circle we watched a YouTube video of this mornings news

Our homemade sun dial ~ Charlie colored the groundhog for us

The shadow moved this far in one hour!
